The Georgia X-treme is home-based in Marietta, GA. and was established in 2003. We have a focus that sets a high standard of quality representation of our community. We're a team that believe in Putting GOD first and creating a family environment with personalities from all walks of life...With the X-treme our Players are not just a Jersey Number...They are the Georgia X-treme.
In 2003, the Georgia X-treme was organized... We joined the Southern Football League. Starting from scratch, The X-treme was fortunate to have a few players and coaches that created the foundation of this organization. Coach Claude Flynn came aboard as the first coach recruited,Coach Flynn brought Character and Discipline, along with Coach Flynn role as Defensive Coordinator, Coach Bobby Gee took the helm of Offensive Coordinator. Coach Jerome Davis assisted the Offense along with Coach Gee.Mark Kubicek was also instrumental on the Coaching staff. We were fortunate to have players like De Virden,James Grant,Chris Van Meter,Charles McClendon, Brad Allen, Charles Burney, Garnett Day, Duan Dove,Fred Royal, Jonathan Gamble,Roger Edmondson, James Prince, Jackie Weems,Marcus Larry,Jason Jenkins,Kevin Ambrose,Ty Walworth,Cedeno Carter,Darrow Ramsey, Derek Russell,Steven Character,Quentin Dulaney,Anthony Peak,Todd Utt,Alex Scott,Leon Foster,Rod Anthony,Clarence Lewis,Steve Cisco,Harry Timothee and a host of other players who help establish this Organization...Daniel( D Gator) Lavine was one of the very few players that I intentionally recruited. His presence on the 2003 X-treme give us a offensive and defensive weapon that establish us as a good team. We had a very good year for a first year team, with an overall record of 7-3-2, including play offs and preseason games. Our 2 losses came by way of a very experience South Atlanta Eagles and our 2 ties came from a team that mirrored us at the time, The Chattanooga Steam. We were fortunate to make the Play offs our first season, but ended up not winning against the Steam in the first round of the play offs with a score of 6 - 3. Our offense scored 207 points and our defense give up 107 points in 11 games. The X-treme saw alot of internal situations play out that year. After the 6th game we saw a QB change from Alex Scott to Chris Van Meter. We went from a predominantly passing team to running the ball with DGator. Our defense played lights out football every game and Clarence Lewis and Rod Anthony became our enforcers when it came to big hits.James Grant lead the secondary in Interceptions, Steven Character, Jason Jenkins and Leon Foster were our leaders in the trenches along with Marcus Larry.Thanx to these players our first year as an organization was a smooth transition.Chris Van Mater was our 2003 team MVP, James Grant was our MV Defensive Player, and Daniel Lavine was our MV Offensive Player. But with the success of the 2003 season we had to focus on not just been good but been a great Football organization.
Then came the 2004 season, After the 2003 season in the SFL we decided to move on to the South Eastern American Football League, to play in a more competitive league. With the departure of Coach Gee and Coach Davis, Our offensive philosophy had to change, Our starting OLB/TE Cedeno Carter who had suffered a football career ending injury in the third game of the 2003 season, and with his intense desire to see the X-treme be a successful program, inquired about helping to coach the receivers. After getting the receivers coaching position,I saw an offensive coordinator hidden within Coach Carter. With the new season brought new talent and personality. The Nationally recognized Georgia X-treme was shaped by our remaining veterans from the 2003 season and the newly acquired guys in 2004. The addition of Roderick Russell,Drey Hines,Boyd Brown,Eddie Harris,Don Mundin, Anthony Wynn,Derrick Moore,Chip Bohannon,Ricky Byrd,Thane Typer, Ed Lemon,Andre Bernardi,Willie Smalls, Rashard James,Buck Lewis,Shawn Anderson,Joseph '5-0" Richard catapulted the X-treme as a nationally recognized team. Anthony Wynn captured the starting QB postioned after the third game of the season, Rod Russell(Georgia Southern 3rd leading rusher in school history) became the center piece of our offense,in front of him was Derek Russell(Furman University) at the fullback position. Together those two terrorized alot of linebackers and defensive backs. Derrick Moore was our go to guy in the air.He and Wynn developed a chemistry unlike no other tandem in Minor League football in the south.Dmo and Charles McClendon went up and got everything Ant put in the air! Chip Bohannon was our Mr Do everything. He was very important to our perimeter running game, he was a great receiver along with been a consistent blocker. He played with a mean streak unlike anybody else I've seen.Thane brought a nasty attitude of blocking to the Offensive line. Drey Hines brought another dimension to the defense. With his knowledge and presence we could run certain defenses to create advantages, Along with Ed Lemon who was converted from RB to DE, Ed has been a consistent force on our defensive line at DE. Buck,Shawn and 5-0 give us the depth and size we needed on the D.Line along with Andre Bernardi ( Who should be playing football on Sundays in the near future). Playing 80% of our games on the road that year was strenuous but the guys didn't seem to mind where we play football. We concluded the season with a 9- 3 - 1 record, Our offense scored 208 points and our defense gived up 108 points, including pre season and making the play offs. The most intense rivalry was started when we defeated the Atlanta Prime 14 - 0 in week 2. The first time the Prime offense had been shut out.. The long trip to Savannah Ga, and the inconsistent calls throughout the play off game lead to another early exit..so concludes the 2004 season. We knew we had the players to dominate on the football field, it was just a matter of tweaking and tightening up a few loose ends. That year the X-treme crossed that bridge from being boys to men! Our MVP was Roderick Russell, our MV Defensive player again was James Grant, and our MV Offensive Player was Anthony Wynn.
We entered the 2005 season with a Vengeance! The X-treme found a Home at Kennesaw Mountain High School...After playing our 2003 season almost an hour away in Temple and having to travel 80 % of the 2004 season. It was great to have a top notch facility to call home.We welcome Coach Manny Adams to the staff as an offensive assistant and special teams coach. That year we also lost few players like Buck Lewis,a very solid D. Lineman,Willie Smalls and Charles McClendon. But in X-treme fashion we have always seems to reload. The addition of Courtney Roebuck to the D. Line,Chris Love, Jabari Myles,Clint Bailey, Wayne McKinley,Gordon Williams,Kenny Russell,Byron Anderson, Marcell Dixon, Byron Wilson,Brandon Williams, Matt Davis in the secondary, Rod Hall one of the most complete football players at the WR position and Travis Zachery( All ACC first team from Clemson University) and the centerpiece of our O. Line James Starks. Don Mundin was moved from the offense to defense.Clarence Lewis was moved from DB to LB. With the addition and the movement of players that made up the 2005 Georgia X-treme...As a coach I couldn't wait for saturdays to show what the X-treme had become. There was balance and strenght at all positions. We actually carried a 72 man Roster that season. Our practices were more intense than some games we played! My most memorable game in X-treme history is the game against The Carolina Eagles. That game was our signature moment against a great team...They came We saw and We Conquered...everybody on the field that day was at the top of their game. Both Teams! Dmo left no doubts that he was the Man! Rock introduced himself to the rest of the SEAFL as the best back in the League. Outdoing the Eagles runningback who clearly should have been playing on Sundays instead of Saturdays.Quentin Dulaney had an outstanding game. Our offensive Line was clicking on all cylinders,Marcus Larry dominated their Offensive line from the first snap to the last snap. Steven Character interception in the third quarter was incredible! James Grant was tested constantly, and in the end showed what he was all about. Ant Wynn second best performance as the X-treme QB. It was just good to see how the week unfolded from coaches meeting, setting a goal, game planning, practice, playing a tough team, and coming out victorious. We ended up 9-1 during the regular season and overall 13 - 3 - 0 for the season, including pre season, play off and post league games. We were eliminated in the Play offs in a classic game against the Prime with a 14-13 score in the second round. Then came the EFA National Championship tournament. We totally destroyed the Atlanta Aggression in the first round. The Aggression previously were the South Atlanta Eagles who had given the X-treme 2 losses in our first season. Our veteran guys had a chip on their shoulder entering that game, and the Aggression had to suffer the consequences. The second round had us traveling to Orangeburgh SC to play the RuffRiders. Again we decimated the RuffRiders with our ground game.Dmo and Byron Wilson put on a receiving clinic,Our defense was once again dominating with big plays from Clarence Lewis,Byron Anderson,Steven Character,James Grant,Ed Lemon,Courtney Roebuck, and Don Mundin. After two away games we had to travel to Petersburgh W.Virginia to play the Virginia Ravens for the right to play for the EFA National Championship. Great game from the X-treme team. We drove for 11 hours and arrived in W.Virginia just in time for kick off. Unfortunately with fatigue from driving all night and not resting, the X-treme couldn't sustain the 4th quarter lead in a very questionably officiated game. First of all the Ravens scheduled the game for 3pm...When asked why an early game, there claim was "No Lights", well Lo and behold around 5pm the lights at the stadium came on. Could have played a later game with some rested players...But water under the bridge,it was a great experience for our Organization...We came away frustrated about how the whole scenario played out, but we understood our effort couldn't be denied. To end the 2005 season, we accepted an invitation to play for the MLFN 2005 National Challenge Bowl Championship in Homestead Florida. We were match up with The Prince William Monarchs. A strong team that totally outsized the X-treme.We were missing a few key players, but that didn't seem to matter...the Monarchs took an early 14 - 0 lead from our first two punts that they returned for touchdowns. Once Ant Wynn got warmed up, he showed everybody the qualities that made him the leader of the X-treme...He connected with Byron Wilson for our first touchdown on a 60 yard pass play. Ant also masterfully found Dmo and Byron throughout the game and did some incredible running to move the chain. Our defense lead by Marcus Larry was inpenetratable! De. Virden and Drey Hines both intercepted the Monarchs at key time. Rod Anthony was laying the Boom on the Monarch's backs. The Monarchs had only one offensive touchdown. After a injury suffered by our fullback Derek Russell early in the second quarter,Chris Van Meter stepped up and provided the spark we needed to get the running game going. Rod Russell ran through the Monarch's defense, along with Quentin Dulaney. Dmo put us in good field positions with some incredible returns, and Ant Wynn put the X-treme on his shoulder and had the best performance he ever had as an X-treme player. Wes Kelly and Rod Anthony provided the spark we needed on special teams to help seal the X-treme's first title. Can't forget the magnificent performance of Coach Flynn, and we're not going to mention the 6 play performance of that other guy! The final score was 42 - 20 after going into halftime down 14 - 6. Once again Roderick Russell was our MVP, Steven Character was our Most Valuable Defensive Player and Ant Wynn was our Most Valuable Offensive Player of the 2005 season.
After evaluating the 2005 season, the decision to leave the SEAFL was made. There had been alot of questionable situations that lead to that decision...With the intent of not returning to compete in the SFL or the SEAFL.The decision was made to join the Alliance Football League...2006 prove to be a challenging year for the X-treme. The week of the regular season was scarred by vandalism at Kennesaw Mtn High School football field, once again leaving the X-treme to get on the road for the 2006 season. Pre season went well with victories over The West Georgia Renegades and the Greenville Greyhounds, we were ready to take on the AFL. Few key players from the 2005 season were gone for different reasons, like Courtney Roebuck who signed a AF2 contract, Byron Wilson, James Grant who suffered an ACL tear playing Arena ball, Don Mundin,Four starting offensive Linemen: Thane Typer,Todd Utt, Ty Walworth and Chris Love who was attending school,Matt Davis our most valuable DB, Clarence Lewis who had joined the Police Force, Joe"5-0" Ricahard (Border patrol) and a few players that didn't want to endure the season on the road...Totally understood! Hats off to the remaining veterans who decided to tough it out for the pride of representing their team. After the first two victories against the tough Montomery Buffaloes on the road, we again lost some key and very important players who were and are part of the success of what the X-treme had become.Rod Russell the centerpiece of our ground game tore an ACL,MCL,and PCL. Marcus Larry who was our most dominant defensive player broke his arm, and Kenny Russell who was establishing himself as the heart of our defense tore his ACL ...All lost for the season in those two game! But the 2006 season brought us Shane Gearing,Mark Lewis,Martinique Crum,Andrew Millard,Jason Ford, Anthony Carvel,Eric Williams,Leroy Hickson,Terrence Nolan and the return of one of the original X-man LB Leon Foster. As always with losses of personnel,we've always been able to reload. WR Rod Hall stepped into his role as one of our go to guys, along with the ever reliable Chip Bohannon,Dmo and Boyd Brown. The revamping of the defense with so many players loss was forgotten by the play of our starting group. Travis Zachery,Rod Anthony,Drey Hines,Ricky Byrd and Rashard James held down the secondary, with the return of Leon Foster along with Terrence Nolan, the ever reliable Byron Anderson,De. Virden, and Steve Character they provided alot of run stopping and dominating from the Linebacker position. Our defensive line was anchored by Jabari Myles, who along with Jason Ford and Ed Lemon played lights out football. Unfortunately Ed tore his achilles in week 5 of the season, once again subtracting from our strenght.Luckily for the X-treme we had Steve Character who did an awesome job playing wherever we needed him. With the challenges faced by our veterans, they stood proud at the end of the season, knowing the long journey and obstacle that we'd encountered. The X-treme ended up with a 10 - 3 overall record, including pre season, regular season and post season. Great job by Quentin Dulaney , Mark Lewis and Derek Russell for their effort with the running game. We ended our season playing the Bluefield Barons for the AFL Championship, with so much that went on that year... the Barons scheduled a 1: pm kick off on sunday( Wow, here we go again)...Due to the travel time and distance for a sunday game once again we were shorthanded. Suffice to say the Barons won the game 27 - 14. I will not speak on the operations of the AFL and the way that their league was operated.( But WOW!). I really didn't want to make the trip to W.Virginia after the debacle with the AFL...No league administrator at the Championship game,No Trophies for the League champion or runner up ,the President of the league refuse to participate in the play offs because he had to travel and he didn't think that his players deserved to go to the Play offs ! Agreeing to schedule a game 10 hours away and playing on sunday at 1 pm! League Commissioner and Waldo where the same person...Where's Waldo! Okay we'll move on... Our offensive points scored to defensive points given up was 258-79 in 13 games. With so many games on the road, fatigue and exhaustion had set in with some players, I remember going down to Chattanooga to play the Pioneers for the last regular season game with about 25 players, without about 15 of our 22 regular starters. The fellas played out of position the entire night,Ant Wynn was blitz constantly by the tough Pioneers defense, but he out tough their defense. It was a close game throughout the night with the Pioneers leading 7 -3 throughout the entire game. Rod Anthony had some spectacular hits on the Pioneers offensive players.Travis Zachery made the most important play of the game, with the clock at 1:15 in the fourth quarter, down 7-3, we were in a fourth and 16 situation,Zach begged for the ball and told us to trust him...Well been the good coaches we are, we did! Travis lined up in the slot and under heavy blitz Ant Wynn rolled out of the pocket and found him right at the first down marker. The catch by Travis was the single most important play that night as we ran it in with 20 seconds left on the clock to give the X-treme a 10 - 7 win over the Pioneers after our kicker Anthony carvel connected on the extra point. Our most resilient group was our offensive line, with the lost of most of our starting offensive line, with the exception of James Stark and Clint Bailey, our offensive line came together and gived everything they had...Eric Williams,Andrew Millard, and other linemen that we could place in a spot, that included LB T.Nolan and TE Marcell Dixon who contributed on the O line. The player that really stood out was our 2nd team QB-2nd team TE - 2nd team FB - Part time Offensive Coordinator - Part time head coach Chris Van Meter. At 5'10 200 lbs. Chris was called on to play Center. Now Chris is the kind of guy who has the heart of a Lion with a I WILL NOT LOSE attitude!
Chris played center in 2006,knowing that most interior Linemen were going to outweight him by at least 100 to 150 pounds. Hats off to Chris for his sacrifice that year,he left everything on the football field and never cheated himself nor his teammates. As a wiseman once said "When it rains...It pours". After our final game in the AFL in W. Virginia, On the way home the bus had a mechanical failure. The players on the bus had to sit on the broken down bus for 8 hours until the bus company dispatched another bus from Chattanooga Tn. Although our game was over at 6: pm, we had to wait until around 2: am to head back to Atlanta...WOW!!! What a year. Ant Wynn was our MVP, Derrick Moore was our MV Offensive player and Jabari Myles was our MV Defensive player. WOW !!!What a year.
The 2007 season was somewhat bitter sweet for the X-treme. After the long and exhausted 2006 season, there were plenty of changes to occur for the X-treme. Along with several team owners who experience similar displeasure with the AFL and a few from other leagues,we collectively formed the United South Football League( A owner operated league). The X-treme participated in the USFL for the 2007 season. With the new league and a new year, we had to approach the season with a new agenda...Gone from the team were a few players who were part of the backbone of what the Georgia X-treme was. The loss of Derrick Moore, Drey Hines, Rod Anthony, James Starks, Marcus Larry, Leon Foster, Travis Zachery, Boyd Brown, Andrew Millard... With the loss of those key players who help mold and shape the character of the X-treme,the coaching staff had to alter our mind set...There were no more comfort zone with those veteran players, but as always... The players who put that Red helmet on with the "X" has always proven to step up to any and all challenges! Our team captain since day one De. Virden took the leadership role on defense at the MLB position, along with the return of Clarence Lewis and the reliable play of Byron Anderson, T. Nolan, and Ricky Byrd, we didn't miss a beat in the LB corp. The combination of Ed Lemon, Jabari Myles and J.Ford still dominated the line of scrimmage. The return of both James Grant and Kenny Russell from their ACL injuries boosted our secondary. Offensively with the return of Thane Typer,Todd Utt, Chris Love to the O.Line brought back that consistency that we had previously. Our running backs were lead by the ever loyal and hard running Quentin Dulaney, Mark Lewis, and Shane Gearing. With the stepping up of our remaining vets and the addition of some awesome ball players, the losses of those players didn't seem to effect the X-treme. Coming to the X-treme in 2007 was Diego Willingham, K D, Paul Charles, Eric Smith, Jonathan Bateman, Mitch Ugweuzi,Jermaine Barber, Darryl Lyons, Donterious Prayor (TAZ). K D and JB were plugged into the starting lineup. Both guys had an incredible year for the X-treme defense.J B at cornerback, and K D was all over the field at LB, safety and cornerback. K D would later prove to be our MV defensive player. Taz brought us the aggressive play in the interior of our defensive line that we haven't had since Marcus Larry's injury. Diego's contribution to the X-treme has been his leadership qualities and his undeniable commitment for the X-treme to win every battle. Diego,Rod and Mitch team up to provide Ant Wynn a group of receivers he could rely on. Unfortunately Leroy Hickson couldn't finish the season due to a health condition. But the X-treme played great football again and all that was loss was forgotten. There were some great games played against teams like the Montgomery Buffaloes, The Georgia Knights and the Georgia Renegades. The USFL in their first season played a eight game regular season. The X-treme ended the regular season with a 7-1 record, not winning one game against the Georgia Knights. Shane Gearing,Quentin Dulaney and Eric Smith were our workhorse on offense, after the season ending injuries of our starting tailback Mark Lewis and our big bruiser Paul Charles. Rod Hall had a break out year and establish himself as a leader among his peers.Rod, Diego and Mitch had a great year. Our offensive line did a great job with the addition of Jermaine Barber. The 2007 team was one of our best team.We didn't have the abundance of athletes as previous years, but we had a team first mentality. The coaching staff did a great job providing that team first mentality. Our regular season ended with the X-treme been number one in the league. Unfortunately in the second round of the play offs, the Montgomery Buffaloes pulled out the upset. That second round loss to the Buffaloes was the first time the X-treme had ever loss a Home game. We went into half time up 12 - 0. For some crazy reason, we played the second half as if the Buffaloes wasn't a good team...The final score of that loss was 15 - 12. We played football for 59:55 and the Buffaloes played for 60:00 minutes. At the end of the game, the announcement was made that Head Coach Wil Smith would be stepping down as head coach and a replacement would be announced at a later date. Coach Smith also served as the Commissioner of the USFL. His decision was to establish and concentrate on the growth of the USFL, and also concentrate on the marketability of the Georgia X-treme. After the regular season, we were invited to participate in the EFA National Championship tounament. Due to a Flu bug, injuries and dissappointment from not finishing what we started, some players opted not to participate in the tournament. In the first round of play, For the first time the X-treme dressed out really low numbers. 17 players to be exact. But those seventeen players showed up and showed out. Matched up against the 2007 SEAFL champions the Atlanta Prime,
